Back on the BEDM prompts today after a bit of a diversion. The theme today is poetry. It’s fitting because I’ve recently got back into poetry and specifically spoken word poetry.

Having half of your degree in English Literature means that most of the poetry I come across and have to read doesn’t necessarily interest me. This in turn makes me feel like I hate poetry when really that’s not the case. It’s the same way as I felt with History when studying it at school. I find it fascinating but the way you’re tested nearly finished me off at A-Level (no idea how Jasmin does it really).

Back to the point – poetry.

Here’s my current favourite poem…

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all.

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Emily Dickinson

Here’s a favourite¬†poem for you to watch/listen to. It’s one of the most popular, and if you’re into spoken word then you’ve definitely heard it but it’s so powerful and I think everyone should give it a chance.

Love as always,
Abigail x
