What January Blues?

Happy New Year!

January always seems to be the month that people have no money, are freezing cold and are generally gloomy. I’ve decided that I’m not making any new years resolutions this year. In fact, I haven’t really heard anybody tell me that they’ve made one. Correct me if I’m wrong.

All I want to do in 2017 is be more positive and practice self love. Anything else positive will come with that hopefully!

In this blog post I will be highlighting just how positive January has been and can be for you!

January 1st 1801 – Dwarf planet Ceres is discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi.
How snazzy is that?! A whole planet was discovered. I did a little research and Piazzi was an Italian Catholic priest and later even had an asteroid and a lunar crater named after him!

January 4th 1972 – Rose Heilbron becomes the first female judge to sit at the Old Bailey.
She worked mainly in personal injury and criminal law and only died in 2005. Very impressive woman actually! She was also the first woman to have a scholarship to Gray’s Inn.

January 11th
1922 – Insulin used for first time on a human for the treatment of diabetes.
1935 – Amelia Earhart becomes first person to fly solo from Hawaii to California.

January 25th 1944 – Florence Li Tim-Oi is ordained in China and becomes the first female Anglican priest.
She wrote a book called Raindrops of My Life: Memoirs of the Reverend Florence Li Tim-Oi. One for the wish list I think!

They’re just a handful of cool things that happened in January in various years. You can make your January just as revolutionary though! What do you want to achieve by the 31st of this month? Make sure you make some goals and tick them off as the days go by. Maybe start a journal – that’s what I’ve done! Every day I have started to write down what I want to achieve by the end of the day and then I review it when I go back the next day. If I’ve achieved it then fab, if not then I try again.

One thing I’ve started to come to terms with is the fact I’m human. And you’re human too! When you make a small mistake don’t beat yourself up about it. And if you don’t tick off the 101 things you’ve added to you To Do List then don’t stress about it! You’re a real human person and sometimes you don’t complete everything you intended to. There’s always tomorrow and you can try again then.

Always reward yourself for doing something you’ve been putting off. Listen to your favourite music. Eat your favourite snack. Buy yourself some flowers. Have a long relaxing bath instead of a quick 5 minute shower. Smile more!!

  1. I am not a fun of resolutions but I make goals (monthly and yearly) and work towards them which makes me happy and not time for January blues lol. But loving the little fact about the FTIH use of insulin as a pharmacologist that interests more lol


  2. You know what, January hasn’t been too bad at all for us so far – we’ve been taking the chance to get really sorted out at home and tick some big jobs off the list. I’ll be glad when it’s a little warmer and the days get a bit longer but otherwise we’re feeling pretty positive!
